The history of the development of secondary education in this country begins from the days british introduced their system of education.The Wood's Despatch of 1854 was an important landmark in the development of educational policy in this country.this despatch laid the fouadation for the establishment of universities and gave a direction and purpose to school education
the proper emphasis to secondary education and its emergence as a distinct stage of education can be traced to Hunter Commission of 1882.this commission was appointed to review the functioning of the programmes and principles of Woods despatch.
